Description

Mabini

Dive sites

Established products that have caused the development of tourism in the area for more than 25 years already

Snorkel Sites

An opportunity that has been little utilized and promoted in Mabini. By rule of thumb, there are more snorkelers than scuba divers. By putting more effort in tapping this market, Mabini can greatly increase it potential market size and market mix.

Birdwatching

The Calumpang Peninsula may offer good opportunity for birdwatching

Gulugod Baboy and Trekking

Gulugod Baboy offers a good alternative or added activity to the people visiting the area. Trekking to other sites can also be done in Mabini. There is a need though to develop trails for this purpose

Gamefishing

Mabini already has most of the requirements to effectively sell gamefishing as a tourist activity. All it takes is product development and marketing for the private establishments already present in the area.

Dolphin Watching

There are already frequent reports on the presence of dolphins in both Tayabas Bay and Batangas Bay . Considering that the direct competitors for dolphin watching in the Philippines are located in the Visayas, this activity can become a highly viable ecotourism activity in the area.

Handicraft

Considering the absence of an established tourism-based handicraft industry, there is a need to tap this sector in order to promote a more equitable economic benefits to the local communities.

Tingloy

Resort Development

The lack of infrastructure and utilities in Tingloy should not be construed as a permanent limitation to tourism investment in the area. Resort development in the area will happen once the situation becomes ideal. Thus, there is already a need for the municipality to institute standards for the development of tourist facilities in its coastal areas.

There are ideal sites for beach resort development in Tingloy such as Sepok Point.

Handicraft and Delicacies Development

The womenfolk of Tingloy can enhance their already existing handcraft and delicacy industry to cater to the tourist markets already visiting Mabini and Batangas City

Gamefishing

Compared with Mabini which hardly has any paraw , the municipality of Tingloy can train its local fishermen to cater to tourists wishing to go into gamefishing using their paraw. Although most of the possible clients would come from Mabini, said municipality could not offer any competition in the short to middle term as paraws are hardly used in Mabini.

Snorkel Sites

Snorkeling can also be a possible “new” offering in Tingloy.

San Juan

Marine Turtle Conservation

Beach areas in San Juan have been identified as marine turtle nesting grounds. Although it may not yet be a viable ecotourism offering, turtle watching may be developed in the area to help promote turtle conservation and community participation in the process. In this regard, a concept for community turtle watch and conservation program may be looked at as a possible program for the area (see appendix).

Dolphin Watching

Given its relative distance from Mabini and the established presence of its tourist market, San Juan can also develop its own dolphin watching program.

Birdwatching and Mangrove Conservation

San Juan is home to a large expanse of mangrove forests and good amount of bird species. This product can then be developed to help increase the total ecotourism offering in the area.

Verde Island

Scuba Diving

In order to get the full benefits of tourism development in the area, there is a need to establish scuba diving as an inherent product of Verde Island . Serving as a day-tour destination, the island, which includes it local communities could hardly realize the economic impacts of scuba diving. Aside from direct investment, one way to do this to make a clear affirmation (and management) of the use of the marine protected areas for scuba diving (and possibly snorkeling)

Birdwatching

Given the (presently) very limited activities of the tourists visiting Verde Island , one product that can be developed is birdwatching

Local handicraft and delicacies

There are already existing handicraft industry in the island. Market introduction and product improvement must be done in order to realize the growth of this sector.

Calatagan

Scuba Diving There is an effective marine protection and conservation effort already being done in the Municipality of Nasugbu, and this has resulted in ideal scuba diving destinations, especially in and around the marine protected areas
Voluntourism Voluntourism is also being done in the area wherein scuba divers can participate in the removal of crown of thorns in the reef areas. Other activities tha can be implemented are the concept of scubasurero (reef clean-up), and beach clean-up. This concept can also evolve into something that would include social volunteer programs, away from the natural sites, but amidst the communities.
Birdwatching Calatagan is home to more than 100 hectares of intact mangrove forest which should make it an ideal birdwatching destination. Other related activities and facilities such as boardwalks, interpretative sign, and nature awareness tour programs can also be made part of the over-all ecotourism development of the site.
Wreck Diving There is at least one ship wreck site that can be utilized for recreational diving.
Marine Turtle Conservation Although not yet mature as an ecotourism product, marine turtle conservation with ecotourism as a possible product in the future can already be started in Nasugbu. The program should use ecotourism as a tool that could possibly help secure beach areas for marine turtle conservation.
